GAF2018 has organised a field trip to sample interesting gender and fisheries places in Thailand, which will provide an opportunity for the delegates to feel the progress Thailand has made in developing the sector through a gender-oriented approach.

9:30-10:30 Catfish production and processing
Started as a community-run catfish farm, they were forced to innovate as the cartel of catfish traders offered a very low price. Experiments began in the kitchen to add value and today, it is a family-run business, with a range of products such as deep fried catfish, sun dried catfish, fish paste, etc.
10:45-11:15 Ornamental fish farm
AquariCORP Co., Ltd. is an ornamental fish wholesaler exporting wild caught and farmed ornamental fish to different countries in Asia and Europe. They have experimented with different systems to develop soft water, saline water and so on. They also breed guppies and Siamese fighting fish for specific traits.
11:30-12:30 Lunch
1:00-2:00 Fish landing site at Khlong 4
The wholesale fish market at Klong 4 is the site where farmed and river fish arrive from nearby provinces of Thailand. This market opens after 1 pm and handles over 700 tons of fish every day.
